How many first time authors can boast a book that still remains a top seller three years after it was first published? How many of these authors are South African? Chantell Ilbury together with Clem Sunter published The Mind of a Fox in June 2001 in which they famously drew scenarios for President George W. Bush and warned of the threat of a terrorist attack on the US. Their scenarios were tragically realised three months later on September 11th.
The Mind of A Fox is currently in its 13th print and has sold in excess of 50 000 copies; making it one of the biggest selling books in South Africa. It is still on the best-seller list of most leading bookstores.
The second book, Games Foxes Play: Planning for Extraordinary Times, allows companies to have an intense strategic conversation based on the idea that business is a game which you have to understand before examining different strategies to play it.
Chantell has lectured strategy and scenario planning at a number of South Africa's top business schools. She facilitates strategic conversations for leading businesses and develops rich insight into issues and opportunities through the medium of scenarios. She has worked within a wide sphere of business including finance, mining, travel, investment, medical care, research and disaster risk management.
Chantell is also a highly accomplished speaker and is well known for engaging the listener with an intelligent, lucid and compelling argument that encourages debate and leaves the audience with a clearer vision of the path ahead.
